One of Kalaw’s only Burmese traditional restaurants
Typical Burmese cuisine
If you are after a change from Shan food and feel like eating Burmese traditional food, look no further than Thu Maung. The menu has an extensive offering of Burmese curries and regardless of what dish you order, you’ll also receive 6 or 7 complementary plates including a vegetable plate with cucumber, carrots, and other green vegetables, fish paste, cooked chillies, green beans, bamboo shoot and a soup of the day. It is run by Shan and Burmese locals and every day you’ll see Kalaw locals with their families or businessmen pouring through the doors for lunch.
This restaurant is very popular with local Burmese families, so if you want to avoid the lunchtime rush arrive just before midday to put in your order.
