iSurprise Jao Tsung-I Academy

In honour of China’s most celebrated schola

Chinese most celebrated scholar

If you’re into Chinese art and calligraphy visit the Jao Tsung-I Academy. This handsome red-yellow building is dedicated to the legacy of the extraordinarily talented Professor Jao Tsung-I's paintings and calligraphy. Widely regarded as the ‘master of Sinology’, he was famous for his encyclopaedia-like memory and outstanding contributions to literature and poetry.

The calligraphy works make me feel that Chinese culture is broad and profound.

Prof. Jao and Macao

Professor Jao has had a long connection with the city of Macao. In the 1980s, he co-founded the Department of Chinese Literature and History at the University of East Asia and donated many of his artworks and poems , many of which are on display here in the museum.
