iSee Kyun Taw Monastery

Tranquil historic complex, popular for free language classes

Historical complex

A compound filled with religious and residential buildings, some of which are over 140 years old. A place of contemplation, peace and tranquillity and observing the daily routines of the monks and nuns. They rely solely on donations and carry the responsibility for religious leadership but also for the management and maintenance of the historic compound.

This monastery has a 140 years old heritage, but there is no extra support from the government to take care of this monastery.

Free language classes

Monasteries in Myanmar are not just about religion, they’re also about education. The special part time classes for monks and nuns are very popular, especially the free language classes. An interesting place to volunteer as an English teacher!
