iShop Kwong Lam Kee (closed)

Traditional mom-and-pop convenience store

I have lived in Sai Ying Pun for over 30 years, I used to know all of my neighbours, but many of them have since moved out. I miss the old Sai Ying Pun.

Mountain products

This now-closed neighbourhood joint was your one-stop shop for 'mountain products', which is how locals refer to bamboo and rattan ware. Kwong Lam Kee had been around for half a century and supplied bamboo steam baskets, chopsticks and tableware to the nearby restaurants. This was your typical traditional store, with a homey familiarity.

Old SYP

The owner, Mrs Kwong, says: "I have lived in Sai Ying Pun for over 30 years. I used to know all of my neighbours, but many of them have since moved out. I miss the old Sai Ying Pun."

One vase to rule them all

"The wedding vase is truly a multi-purpose container. The Elderly typically buy it as a spittoon, but the red double happiness character also makes for an excellent wedding gift. We've even had foreigners using it as a bowl to serve fruit punch."
