Where aunties come to hang out
The game is on
All throughout the day, this is a favourite hang-out place for the Sai Kung elderlies. Rain or shine, the women come here for chat, a laugh and some camaraderie. The aunties share happily that they have been gathering here for almost ten years, dividing their time between the waterfront promenade, the children’s playground and the shaded pavilion on the square.
A popular game is the ‘6 cards’ game. Players place 50 cent bets hoping to win big, and triumph over their lifelong friends. The coins are kept in small plastic containers, resting on top of stacked cardboard and styrofoam boxes – the same ones in which the games are hosted on.
