Ancient brick city walls
- Arak Road
Chiang Mai city is a perfect square of 1600 by 1600 metres. The fortifications around the city were rebuilt by General Chao Kawila after he liberated the Chiang Mai from the Burmese in the late 18th century. What we are seeing today is not the original brick wall. In the 1960s a major renovation took place.
Chiang Mai is famous for its artistic and creative industry. The city is the breeding ground of many Thai artists. At the west gate side, there are some interesting pieces by local graffiti artists.
