iSee Tsui Ping River

A small river in the big urban jungle

Revamping the river

Amidst the hustle and bustle flows a river, commonly known as King Yip Street Nullah. What used to be a smelly stream in a large concrete drain was completely revamped in 2019. It now features natural rocks, riverside trees, footbridges and walkways that make for a surprisingly nice stroll in the urban jungle. "I seldom walked near it, it used to stink, now it is better” says Auntie May one of the residents.

Flood control

The Tsui Ping river originates all the way from Sai Kung and streams down the hills to flow into Kowloon Bay. In the 1960’s it was turned into this concrete drain channel, a key piece of infrastructure to control flooding in Hong Kong’s rainy season.
