iSee Museum Bank Indonesia

Impressive money museum in the old Javanese bank

The museum is enormously popular, so expect to see queues on Sundays and public holidays.

Ultramodern museum

Bank Indonesia’s museum takes you straight to the future with ultramodern interactive displays illustrating the long history of the bank.

Javanese bank

The building was purpose-built as a bank in 1910 by Ed Cuypers in a classic architectural style with many Hindu Javanese style elements. The Javanese Bank was the colony’s main financial institution. After independence it was nationalized into Bank Indonesia until in 2009 it became a museum, a key turning point in the revitalisation of Kota Tua.

Our favourites

We like are the vast vaults in the basement for storage of gold and paper. Don’t miss the interactive display in the hallway where you feel bombarded by coins.
