iSleep Art Deco House

Art deco & art nouveau from the 1930’s, with a local touch

Art deco enchantment

You’d be surprised to find some elegant Art Deco mansions hidden amidst the solid solemn 17th and 18th century Dutch period buildings. This one at 44 Lighthouse Street is a marvel of Art Deco style, built in the 1930s by a wealthy gem merchant. Still owned by the same family it is now a hotel, championing the art deco theme throughout the building.

A surprising find amidst the wonderfully eclectic mix of architectural styles in Galle Fort

More hidden Art Deco gems

Like what you see? There are some more nice Art Deco examples. We like the stylish yellow Bank of Ceylon regional office at Hospital Street and no. 78 Lighthouse Street is another fine example.
