Sticky rice & ice snack
At the street market, you will usually find Than Than Swe selling her delicious mont lat saung dessert dish, which is made up of sticky rice, jelly balls, white bread, milk, ice, and coconut flesh (copra) shavings. At 300 kyat a bowl, a fantastic refresher on a hot Yangon day! She wakes up every morning at 3.30am to bring her utensils and food from home by trishaw, except in the rainy season. “I‘m open from 7am to 2pm and each day I sell around 100 bowls” she says.
Every day, Ma Myint Myint Thwe comes all the way from Mingalardon to the market to sell her tasty marinated sardines. She sources her fish from Kyeemyindaing Fish Market, the largest fish market in Yangon. Seven sardine pieces will cost you 1,000 kyat.
