Most people know Butterworth as the place to catch a ferry to Penang, a bus to KL or even a train to Bangkok. But, there’s more to Butterworth than the port and the station. A bit rawer and rougher than the charming heritage gem of Georgetown, Butterworth is a melting pot where the spirit of old Malaya is alive in its many temples - Chinese, Hindu and Sikh - churches and mosques, markets, old-school clubs and the food, best enjoyed by the bustling roadside.
