Blast from the past
Not much remains of the old Butterworth, but these old government offices and quarters have been here since the 1930s and 40s. The architecture of the buildings here is in typical post-modern style, a reminder of the days when Butterworth was the main administrative centre for Seberang Perai. These buildings feature a unique mix of colonial and Malay-style architectural features. We like the veterinary building with its wraparound verandah, that was built in 1931.
Cemetery
There is also a small Anglican cemetery here, mainly parishioners from nearby St. Mark’s church.
