International gateway to Wanchai and landmark of a special chapter in HK history

A new phase

The opening of HKCEC in 1988 marked a new phase for Wanchai. No longer just a residential neighbourhood, with the further reclamation and emerging office towers, the northern part turned into a leading business district, with thousands of office workers. This was a game changer for the neighbourhood and the everyday fabric of the place. As historian Mr. Cheng said: “Some parts of Wanchai are now even busier than Central!”

International landmark

Selected as the best convention centre in Asia, HKCEC has become an irreplaceable landmark that sits at the centre of the Victoria Harbour skyline. With a rentable space of 91,500 sq. m (half of the size of Victoria Park), it has hosted close to 50,000 events and served over 125 million users since 1988.

People from all over the world come to HKCEC, bringing in traffic and tourists. It changed the face of Wanchai.
