Power to the people
The pastel green Carmo Hall was better known as the General Electric Bureau, once the only public power plant in Taipa. Its capacity was limited to just two electric machines to service the whole island, so many Taipa residents kept using kerosene lamps until the 1960s when they were connected to the power grid.
I love the mint green color.
Now a center for art and literature
In 2007, Carmo Hall was converted into a multi-functional activity center with regular cultural performances, recreational events and themed talks.
