iSurprise The Fort House

A reminder of our life journey in Matara Fort

We spent a simple childhood within this ancient fort. We were ferried to school on the Nilwala River and paid seven (7) rupees per month for it.

Pigeon Island and thotamuna (mouth of the river) were embedded in our lives. We played, dried fish (karawala), and even boats stopped to rest for the night. But when we visit these places now, we are taken into different places. The coast where we played has changed. I can't really explain what I feel.

The beach is eroding as you can see. And I feel cut off from my childhood.
