iEat Hotel Bankshall

Authentic rice and curry, the way the locals like it!

A local trader’s favourite

Tucked into a corner of Bankshall street is one of the most phenomenal bath kadeys (rice and curry restaurants) in the area. Hotel Bankshall does a thriving business catering to people from all segments living and working in Pettah. The restaurant has been around for 18 years and was recently renovated, and is surprisingly clean for an establishment doing fast trade in a hard-core market area. The place gets quite packed for lunch and dinner, so make sure you jump in and get your order in as quickly as possible. Don’t worry if the staff are gruff, that’s usually how things work around here. Want to eat as the traders do? Hotel Bankshall is an underrated spot for some honest local fare.

What to order?

Their speciality, quail curry, is a popular dish. It comes with rice for Rs. 440. They do some solid rice and fish curry dishes starting for as cheap as Rs. 130. Their faluda isn’t bad either. It’s a powerfully sweet drink with rose water, milk, ice cream and a thick layer of sherbet at the bottom. Just what you need after a hot day wandering around Pettah.
