Colours bursting out from every stall

Market Place

Colours burst out from every stall, mat and floor space at the Pola. This market stood tall for nearly 100 years until, in 2004, the Tsunami hit and washed away this central economic point without barely leaving a trace.

Today, again the market is bustling with food, flies and festivities. Every Sunday the pola explodes in vibrant shades, sounds and sustenance and from all four corners, locals flock here to buy their weekly groceries. If you’re cooking at home while in Matara, this is definitely the place to grab your weekly grub.
