iSurprise Munshi Abdullah’s House

Abdullah was born in KampungPali in 1796. This was where Abdullah’s grandmother taught the Quran to some 200 children and other people. When he was a boy, Abdullah’s family moved to another house “very close to KampungPali”. Through his writings we know that Munshi spent $1,700 on a brick house. When his wife died, a grief-stricken Abdullah sold the house for a mere $500, and moved his family to Singapore. Again the location of this house is not known. Today a plaque has been put up at the house, suggesting it to have been Abdullah’s home. But this is “very dubious”, according to scholars including Prof.Khoo Kay Kim.
