Sidosemi’s meatballs

This small blue stall tucked away in the heart of Kotagede sells a local culinary speciality: soup with meatballs. In the 1970’s Pak Sidosemi opened a warung near the great mosquewhere he invented the recipe for his famous bakso tomat: meatball soup with tomato. Recently, the grandson took over the place and started afresh at this new location. He has given a twist to some of the old recipes, but kept his grandfather’s name: Bakso Putu Sidosemi (Sidosemi’s grandson’s soup).

Nostalgic memories

It gets really crowded here when the day of Idul Fitri approaches and fasting month comes to an end. People from all over the country to return to their hometown (pulang kampung) to celebrate the Ramadan feast with the family.

Bakso Putu Sidosemi is incredibly popular with home-comers, so many who came here since they were kids.

He has given a twist to some of the old recipes, but kept his grandfather’s name: Bakso Putu Sidosemi.

Must-try

A portion of bakso tomatis Rp. 8.000-10.000. If you’re in the mood for something cold and sweet, Putu Sidosemi is also well-known for doing a great es kacang ijo(Rp. 5.000), a sweet Indonesian dessert made from green mung beans boiled soft in coconut milk.
