Sample some street food
Along Jl. Kepanjen you can find many warung (small food stalls) selling Surabaya’s traditional food and snacks, such as lontong balap and es campur. The stalls have a loyal following from church congregants and are very popular among students from the renowned Catholic school in the same street.
Our favourite stalls:
We like the ice-cold freshly made drinks from Es Campur Seno (Rp. 10.000), a popular treat consisting of shaved ice, coconut, grass jelly, syrup, condensed milk and various fruits. Officially a dessert, but enjoyed all day round. The generous portions of Indonesia’s classic gado-gado (Rp. 11.000) from Podo Trisno also come highly recommended.
