iEat Sprouting Seeds

A café and training centre with vegetarian food, sweets and yoga

Homey café

If Alice in Wonderland had a cafe, it might have looked a little something like Sprouting Seeds. The recycled U crate couch is the perfect spot to enjoy the sunshine, have a coffee or lay back with a book while you order a freshly baked spicy carrot cake from the lavender-painted counter. Filled with interestingly shaped pieces of furniture, this is not just another café, but a social enterprise that supports young people living in Shan State from impoverished backgrounds. They teach healthy and wholesome growing and food preparation but also the technique of using recycled materials. The counter for example is made from onion bags and glass, covered in clay and then lime wash to ensure natural waterproofing. This technique is what the staff teach to villages, schools and monastic schools under their training school branch Whispering Seeds.

Our favourites

The menu is extensive with vegan and vegetarian goods aplenty. Customer’s favourites include tamarind-coated tofu, guacamole, homemade soup of the day, generously sized hearty sandwiches and the baked goods of muesli cookies, cinnamon scrolls and homemade ice-cream from salted caramel to coconut served with a peanut butter brownie.

Kalaw yoga

The upstairs has been transformed into a lovely yoga room, roll out your mat and find your inner peace. Daily classes on offer and drop ins are welcome. Namaste!
