iSee Gedung Jasindo

Art deco building with first elevator in the country

A rare example of tropical art deco with original wood panelled interior, stained glass windows and a grand wrought iron staircase

First elevator in the country

Gedung Jasindo was the first office building to have an elevator in Indonesia. In 1912 this was the tallest building at the square – three storeys tall! Built by famous architects Hulswit-Fermont-Cuypers from Amsterdam for the trading company West-Java Handel-Maatschappij it is a real architectural highlight.

About Jasindo

For many years this gem of a building was forgotten, used as a billiard hall and convenience store. Now the owner, Jasindo Insurance, has plans to give it a new lease of life with some pioneering creative tenants.
