Sustainable Sri Lankan fashion and lifestyle concept store
Designed and made in Sri Lanka
6,000 square feet in a charming mid-century bungalow dedicated to Sri Lankan sustainable contemporary design. The spacious store features handpicked collections of clothes, sarees, rugs, homeware and gifts that so fit the islands lifestyle. “The ‘Urban Island’ concept store experience completes the design-led eco system we are pushing out of Sri Lanka” says Linda Speldewinde, lecture at Sri Lanka’s leading design institute AOD, who opened the store as apart of a Sri Lanka’s Innovation Island initiative in 2018.
At Urban Island it’s all about traditional craft with a global view, affordable luxury that connect deeply to the island’s creativity and culture. All products are rooted in sustainable design, seasonless style and a conscious way of living: sarees that double as curtains, soft linen dresses, woven rattan lampshades and thick cotton cushions with bright block prints. We like the collection of local fashion brands like JAF tea, Aqua Island, Greenfield and Allure, inspiring us to start curating our own travel stories.
