iSurprise Ambassadress Hotel

Relic from an illustrious past

Glory from the past

When it opened in 1960 Ambassadress was the only ‘luxury’ hotel in the area. This is where famous singers and movie stars from Hong Kong used to stay when they came for movie premieres at the Rex Cinema next door. Famous guests included Chiang Kwang Chau, Jin Fei and Koo Mei. The cinema closed down many years ago, but the hotel continues to operate as a 25 room mid-range hotel. “This was a happening place with a lot of activities, you barely got a quiet night here in those days” says 70-year-old owner Han Chin Boon “singers, actors and even royalty stayed here.”

Hidden gem

Find Bee See Heong in the little lane behind the hotel, they cook up good Chinese food. We love the succulent curry pawns.
