Metal beating lane, where the art of handcrafted copper is still alive

You would think that stainless steel and aluminium would have replaced traditional materials, but here we still use copper and brass.

Copper crafters

Located right in the heart of the old city is Kansara bazaar. This is where you find traditional copper and brass items made by the people of the Kansara community. A great place for authentic handcrafted cups, utensils, statues and even antique ware.

Valued commodity

Vipulbhai Kansara, who has operated his family business in the bazaar for over 45 years, shares: “You would think that stainless steel and aluminium would have replaced traditional materials, but here we still use copper and brass. They have many benefits. Firstly, they are ideal for storage as they have antibacterial properties, secondly, the metals are pure and hence can be used in religious ceremonies and finally they are a good investment often included in a bride's trousseau for her financial security.”
